SFL 2024 Summer Camp

About camp

SFL Summer Camp is back in 2024 from August 10-16 at Shekinah Retreat Centre.

Our camp is built on a foundation of trade union values. We stand for equality, fairness, and justice; for dignity & respect of all working people. We believe in solidarity: that people can achieve more acting together than they can do on their own.

We welcome campers who are between the ages of 13-16, and who are children of union members.

What to expect

SFL camp empowers young people through active learning, cooperative recreation, and fun-focused social events.

Activity is a cornerstone of any summer camp – we offer campers the chance to canoe, zipline, play field games, craft, wall climb, and more!

Through activity, presentations, and pop education, campers dive into unions, organizing, worker rights & safety, and equality. All the while, campers challenge & resist ageism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, racism and other issues that are important to navigating the world as a young person and young worker.

Campers will also participate (and even lead!) in a host of fun activities, including a talent night, initiative tasks, bonfires, and much more. The farewell dance on the last night is always a highlight for campers.

The details

The camp will begin Saturday afternoon, August 10th, and end the following Friday morning, August 16th. Staff at our camp include Youth Activity Coordinators (YACs), recreation staff, counsellors, food service professionals, and camp nurses.

Early bird registration is $700 per camper ($800 for non-SFL affiliates). After April 30, registration is $800 ($900 for non-SFL affiliates). Full payment must accompany completed registration in order to qualify.

Some affiliated unions subsidize this cost – check with your union local. Arrangement for payment by the union is the responsibility of the camper’s parent(s)/guardian(s).

Limited scholarships are available. Our goal is to ensure no one is excluded because of cost.

To sign up and pay for camp, go to the SFL’s 'REGISTER' page. Alternatively, you can use this fillable PDF.
